| Hunger Awareness Day (June 1st) – The Food Bank, Salvation Army & Fellowship Baptist Church Soup Kitchens are joining together to help raise awareness of the problem of hunger in our community. How can you help? Mark Hunger Awareness Day 2010 as the day to take action to assist those in need. From June 1st to June 12th, the Food Bank and local soup kitchens are asking for your help to organize and participate in a group challenge to raise food or funds to help end hunger. Here’s some suggestions how you can get started: A. Skip a Meal – in your business or company, encourage everyone to go without eating one or two meals and then donate the funds they would typically spend on a meal to the hunger challenge B. Help Change Hunger – leave a change jar or tin in the cafeteria or restaurant to collect extra change leftover from purchasing food or a meal and donate it to the hunger challenge C. Every Penny Counts – organize a penny drive in your business or school D. Build a Can Mountain - collect canned items and attempt to make a large mountain of cans (remember to take a picture and submit it to the Food Bank) E. Other Ideas – be creative in your efforts to help raise awareness and end hunger Please complete the registration form and fax it to 780-743-9156 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Food items can be dropped off at all the participating grocery stores or brought to the Food Bank warehouse at 370 MacAlpine Crescent. A pickup of food items can be scheduled in advance if required. Please contact Arianna Johnson at 780-743-1125 if you have any further questions. To donate online, click here, or on the Get Involved tab at the top for more information. Together, let’s end hunger one food item at a time.
